Thoughts from Apollo
"Open Water showed me black love I did not think existed in contemporary literature. It was a book that hit my soul in ways that rocked me to the core and reshaped my own thoughts about love. Never have I read something that felt so raw and real to a black experience and understood the intricacies of black love. It's a book I'll go back to over and over just for that feeling."
A poem by Logan Wilson
words fail us
you must simply bear witness
to the white-hot pokers
seared in your ancestry

words fail us
you must simply bear witness
to the temporal pockets
where a crooned note
invites us into oneness

words fail us
you must simply bear witness
to the promises
that prevented you from
frolicking
in the open water

words fail us
you must simply bear witness
to her absence
and mourn the stories
you could have told
if
words hadn’t failed us
